What are penalties of public intoxication/urination in IN?
My boyfriend just got arrested last night for public urination and he was just at the bars too so I think most of the charges were from the public intoxication. However, he was in the area of town (this is a college town btw) where all the bars are... So I don't understand how they can rely so heavily on the public intox there, without booking everyone who steps onto the street. He got a $260 or so fine, 20 hours of community service, has to take a cl on alcohol abuse or something to that effect... but the kicker is that he's not supposed to drink, publicly or privately, for a year. This is his first such offense, and I don't think he was totally smashed when they picked him up. I GUESS I can understand all of his punishment except the alcohol prohibition, which seems to be something that would be more prone to be thrown at a repeat offender or someone with a DUI, but he has a clean record. Does this sound accurate for Indiana law, or is it a completely ludicrous punishment that might be able to be gotten rid of?
