Getting ready to go through a custody Evaluation.?

I am getting ready to go through a custody evaluation. The only reason is so the Judge can cover her and that my ex can't come back and appeal her decision. The only problem is I live 5 hours away from where it is going to take place. I heard that they have a home fisit as well and can cost in excess of 5k dollars. we don't have that kind of money. Can any tell me what I can expect. This custody has been going on for over two years. Thanks Stacy
